Well, the good news about 2018 is that it’s not 2017, although we did get some fine music last year, as the best tracks and best albums run downs showed.
The long term future for the industry is pretty uncertain, but I promise 2018 here isn’t going to be just lots of lists – although you’ve got to admit they’re fun. Anyway, first things first: the, erm, January playlist is up on Spotify, with some tunes from faces old and new, a list which will be regularly updated as everyone gradually wakes up.
Reviews wise there will be be trips to the archives this month with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Simple Minds, Hot Chip and The Hold Steady plus I’ll be covering new releases by Hookworms, Jono McLeary, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly and more. In terms of features over the year there will be 10, 20, 30 – looking at landmark albums on their birthdays – In Town This Week will preview selected gigs locally and also more in depth threads on Madchester in the run up to the Happy Mondays Bummed hitting three decades, remembering Britpop and each month there will boldly be the award of an album of the month gong.
