The final update of the month means there’s now new stuff from the big hitters as the industry wakes up – The Eeels, Ride (Gone all dreampop) and The Editors – plus shabby punk from Cabbage and much, much more…

Seems like as gooder time as any to update this month’s playlist with some crackers..

Firstly, Jack White’s new song Connected By Love has to be heard to be believed, White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather fans, you might want to sit down with a nice cup of tea before you take in this one. It’s not the only atypical comeback, as David Byrne goes electro pop on Everybody’s Coming To My House, whilst at the other end of spectrum The Manics have sounded so Manic as on International Blue.

Guitars are nice but it’s far from all abou them though, as a there are a couple of cheats from the end of last year with Catz & Dogz 3am and bug eyed Rave Culture, the distressed house of Black Madonna’s Stay and back in the moment if you don’t like either grime or London you probably won’t want to listen to Lethal Bizzle’s tune.

And finally, check out what all the fuss about Shame is with the polemical Happy Mondays-esque growl of Friction, taken from their brilliant new album Songs Of Praise.

For those of you who don’t use it, here are some highlights..firstly some good old snot nosed indie from ace Londoners Shame…

Django Django’s new album Marble Skies is out later on this month and In Your Beat is some high class synth pop.

Finally, Leeds own Nightmares On Wax return with Citizen Kane from their new album Shape The Future; the track features Mozez of Zero 7 fame, for those of you with good memories.

Well…everyone’s back at work – and so is the music industry. By definition all of the songs so far on this month’s list came out last year as warm up’s for early 2018 releases, but it’s easy for things to get lost in December’s listomania – so whilst we’re detoxing and staying in, there’s every reason to get some new music into the system.

Opening up is the bratty, attitudinally problem soaked indie rock of High Tyde’s In Your Head, whilst some of the medium’s bigger guns are also represented in Franz Ferdinand, The Shins, Black Rebel Motorycle Club and First Aid Kit. This month also sees the return of Fall Out Boy via new album Mania, although on this remix of Champion they up sounding suspiciously like a beefed up Maroon 5, perhaps unsurprisingly as it’s co-written with erm, Sia.

That should go down well. Anyway local cult heroes Hookworms are back in early February with their excellent new album Microshift (Negative Space made last year’s Top 40) whilst former Kaiser Chief Nick Hodgson contributes Suitable here and also premieres the rest of his new material with a gig at Headrow House.

Finally, if you haven’t listened to Jono McCleery before, Ingenue is a great place to start. Taken from his album Seeds of a Dandelion which is due out on the 26th of the month, it’s a cover of Atoms For Peace, but don’t let that put you off.
