Sometimes progress doesn’t feel like progress at all; almost a decade ago The Vaccines debut album arrived with a sneery, manna-from-heaven feel to it, perfection for those who were sick of raging indie indifference. Splicing the DNA of The Strokes, Never Understand and surf pop, monstrous and cool it was a thrilling reinvention of the wheel.
Ra Ra Ra Wreckin’ Bar now though seems almost disastrously gauche, like something a twelve-year-old would make using Garage Band whilst simultaneously offing people on Assassin’s Creed. None of this changes the fact that it was a great song then however – and it’s still a great song now.
