It’s amazing what people throw away; Even Good Things Break My Heart is a song so excellent that, typically for the always understated former Coral man Bill Ryder-Jones, it’s left in maddening relative obscurity at the end of his erudite West Kirby County Primary album.

It’s a song as simple as he’s complicated, one as melodically wonderful as a peak-era Smiths might’ve struggled to match and as full of lyrical and personal uncertainties as you might expect from one of the songwriters of their generation. a b-side made in heaven.
