Not all the best songs have to be written by Dylan or Lennon and McCartney; the beauty of music is that no-one has a monopoly over it and the world would be a very boring place if they did.

Deaf Havana’s James Veck-Gilodi comes from a small town on the east coast of England and Youth In Retrospect is about that: you should write about what you know. It’s a song about falling in adolescent love and making that love feel real for the first time, about infatuation, regret and loneliness, emotions felt universally, from which it draws a supreme power. He’ll probably never write any other like it again, but that’s ok.
