100 Greatest Songs of the 2010’s #83 – Run The Jewels – Run The Jewels

Released : 2014

Sounds a bit weird, but most of the time rappers dissapoint, and that’s a good thing. There’s a certain level of bill paying skills after all that you don’t want every mortal to be good with/at, so when someone jumps and lets rip and it sounds terrible, that’s just fine.

RTJ didn’t sound terrible, of course. They sounded like they were chewing elastic and spitting blow darts, messy and yet locked in synchronised trouble, winners at a competition most other bums hadn’t even thought of yet. They also knew the power even in this modern age of digital atrophy of an album one, side one, track one that was breaking skulls, tongues and eardrums from the moment it dropped.
