Hard to believe that Jo-Vaughn Scott was only 17 when he released 1999, his first mixtape and one which announced a definitive new talent at a time when the genre seemed to be running out of ideas, heroes and time.

In 2012 they didn’t makes tunes like Waves any more: loopy,  jazz rich phrases, mellowness by the yard and a delivery that was naturally perfect. Rap always seems to find itself new blood just when it needs – and Waves is yet another example of right man, right place and right time.
