100 Greatest Songs of the 2010’s #75 Fast Talk – Houses

Released : 2018

Drug songs, ten cents a sack. We all know about the good tunes, but those that are cautionary tales feel somehow like they were written, produced and recorded by the fun police, a party being endlessly pooped.

There are new, 21st century drugs of course, served up by dealers Jack and Mark, the narcissim and cheap seratonin highs of unsocial media which have us all hooked, piped into our own homes like toxic waste.

Dexter Tortoriello has written a song about drugs which is positive, negative, sad and uplifting all at the same time: Fast Talk musically lies somewhere between peak era MGMT and a blissed out Vampire Weekend, the words about loss and looking for a brighter future where understanding holds all the aces over prejudice.
