About a million and one fads, fetishes, nano-scenes and general wastes of time have come and passed since Brooklyn duo Light Asylum self-released their Tension EP almost ten years ago. And yet Dark Allies remains as fresh sounding now as it did then, primarily because it followed no trend at the time, folding over electroclash with industrial synths and singer Shannon Funchess’ bludgeoning, theatrical vocals. Even with hindsight the whole thing is a sort of mini-Berghain opera, filled with religious imagery and face scratching 2am paranoia. In short: it’s disco, but not as you know it.
