100 Greatest Songs of the 2010’s #53 Fetty Wap – Trap Queen

Released : 2014

Weird how one guy’s pop is another’s poison: Trap Queen is a far slicker than it seems first time around, when Fetty Wap’s delivery seems to be straining somewhere between song and rap, the stand and deliver flow like that of someone opening up as if they’ve only got one shot to take.

But after two or three listens you know you’ve absolutely got the real deal, a production wearing it’s Dancehall lilt proudly, the stuttering beat and big vamps screaming a Grand Theft Auto appearance and the street words chiming with a story of someone finally head over heels for something other than money.

So Hit Me Baby One More Time it’s not, but that world left us 20 years ago. The new royalty was a Trap Queen.
