There are moments on Can’t Do Without You – the lull part way through in which the synths buzz happily, the tremulous vocal lead out – where Dan Snaith evidently felt the pull of the old Caribou identity , one which flirted with the outliers of electronic pop, albeit with a genius-like ear for it’s possbilities
There will have been doubts, but Can’t Do Without You turned out to be the song which took him places he’d never been before, into the ears of millions as opposed to being a largely underground concern. It deserved to do that too: warm and soulful, the distorted refrain ear worming it’s way into the brain until mere back to back to back plays were just never enough.
