2021’s Best Albums #17 Dry Cleaning – New Long Leg

Existing on the indistinct boundary between pop and art isn’t for the fainthearted. In avoiding the trapdoors of both pretentiousness and gimmickry New Long Leg, with guitarist Tom Dowse flexing muscle memory earned in various hardcore bands, was a surprisingly direct and vibrant first album from a band evidently set on having a long shelf life.

    1. I can understand that. British “indie” music had a schism two or three years ago and there are a lot of bands like Squid, Black Country New Road, black midi and Dry Cleaning who’re more obviously influenced by post rock, no wave or free jazz.
