It’s probably wrong to fixate a little on Amy Taylor as the front woman of her band, but it’s a role she has a distinct, fiery imprint of. The opening track of Amyl and The Sniffers third album Jerkin’ provides a neat illustration of this, Taylor launching a stream of invective in someone’s direction, topping it all off with ‘Keep jerkin on your squirter, c**t/You won’t get with me’.
The album’s title is a reaction to the kind of global perma-crises which seem almost too great to measure, although much of it’s subject matter lies within the self. Here the very online are given the treatment (Tiny Bikini) as well as the mansplainers (You Should Not Be Doing that).
Sonically the quartet’s ground rules have also been expanded, embracing the hardcore of It’s Mine, whilst there’s even a vocoder lurking somewhere on Me And The Girls. Cartoon Darkness finds Amy Taylor with a lot to say and truculently defending her patch; the anger is justified, but it only takes this record so far.

My Sister loves Amyl and the Sniffers. I keep meaning to check them out, so this is a good reminder.
