In an industry where people aren’t as happy on surprises as you might be led to believe, being kept out of the loop doesn’t get more mind blowing than when your track is getting the remix treatment from somebody who can open up pretty much any door you can imagine.
Both H-Town residents, Megan Thee Stallion ran into Beyoncé at a New Year’s Eve party in 2019. The former was an up-and-comer as the new decade began, the latter needed no introduction, but when the idea of a remix was floated, the way of working was thing; rather than hang in the studio getting chatty, whatever Beyoncé did, she did in isolation.
The result was a complete makeover of the original; minimalist in beats, it fed late night stripper vibes through a supreme R&B lense, bumped and ground the audience to distraction and oozed the transformer’s class, attitude and style. Nobody knew it was coming. But sometimes ignorance really is the prelude to bliss.
