It’a all fun and games until someone gets hurt isn’t it? Whilst being a rapper doesn’t quite have the life exectancy of say your average opera singer, it’s nowhere near as deadly as it was in the late 20th century, something we should all at least be thankful for.
That said, we all love a diss track, don’t we, for the same reasons we can’t stop listening in to a street argument, because it’s somebody else’s anger, fear, danger – we don’t have to emotionally invest but still get some of the enorphin rush, even if it’s somebody else’s problem.
Like all good beefs Kendrick and Drake’s had been going for a long, long time – in rap years, it was almost as old as Jesus – and you immediately had to award Not Like Us five popcorns for invention right down to it’s sleevework. This being the twenties the injured party’s response was a lawsuit as opposed to something you’d need to visit an ER after getting, but whilst this battle was over, the war was still very much on.
