100 Greatest Songs of the 20’s So Far #4 Turnstile – Never Enough

Released: 2024

The end of one year and the beginning of another most frequently prompt discussions about change – but often those affirmations are never embraced or peter out in the harsh reality of needing to survive January’s slings and arrows.

Quite obviously the various members of Turnstile have discussed change as an idea rather than the byproduct of resolution; veterans of the Baltimore hardcore scene, they marked a transaparent steering away from the movement’s elemental precepts as early as their second album Time & Space.

Whilst it’s not accurate to suggest that their fourth Never Enough will rewire the genre – they’re already operating too far outside it’s stylistic confines too achieve that – it will definitely pull unbelievers into the creative space inbetween. The titular opener is one of the clearest expressions of this construct, part dream pop, part wall of death, all arenaline rush. Through it Turnstile have decided to change things outside their orbit, the act of which alone should be saluted for it’s bravery.
