Honesty – Where R U EP review

Home isn’t always where the heart is. Rooms are full of memories; going back to where you once knew isn’t even always a safe option. George Mitchell has stayed in Leeds, despite the eventual capitulation to pressure of Eagulls, the strident post-punk band he fronted before who made lots of friends but sold not many records, as those sorts of bands tend to.

Honesty began during the lockdown era are a very conscious step away from that milieu. Splicing together house, techno, ambient and shoegaze the five tracks on Where R U? showcase a rootless foundation in urban musics, from the claustrophobic garage of opener Nightworld to U & I’s operatic art pop. “I wish you would stay” goes the latter; they did, and it sounds like for Honesty home is the right place – for now.
