W.H. Lung have been on the radar for so long they must feel like they’re a UFO. If their 2019 debut Incidental Music hinted at the nu-psychedelia of early Tame Impala, it’s follow up Vanities was dirtier and fueled by county lines rave.
Each of them gained much critical acclaim – not that you use that to settle up the bar tab at the end of the night – and so for their third chapter they draft in Ross Orton, the Sheffield based producer whose previous credits include the Arctic Monkeys and Working Men’s Club.
As if sellotaped to the studio wall, the band rallied around ‘direct’ as a mission statement, and Every Inch Of Earth Pulsates trims any noodle off robustly. At it’s best on the soaring opener Lilac Sky, Bliss Bliss’ synth pop and How To Walk’s crackling indie, this might finally be the close encounter with wider recognition they richly deserve.
