It helps to know exactly what you want. And for their debut album The Good Water front man Rob Clements knew just what he wanted.
“We love the feel of old vintage gear, so it’s not at all surprising that our music also has a slightly moth-eaten, analogue vibe to it. Personally I’d always wanted to create an album with a mixture of hook-filled, unapologetic pop bangers, and more extended instrumental tracks, that take the listener on psychedelic sonic journeys. I feel we’ve done exactly that.”
Fair enough. Clements is joined in the trio by Tom Fisher (vocals/drums) and Stuart Webb (vocals/keyboards), but whilst they’ve been around for almost a decade and toured with the likes of Mercury Rev, Super Furry Animals and Bill Ryder-Jones, they’ve largely remained a spoken word phenomenon in their native West Midlands.
Feel Your Mind may change that. Rooted in the psychedelic dreamscapes of Goat and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, they’re certainly not afraid of the wah-wah pedal as opener Firmament and the groovy Children of The Sun show, but equally they also play well with garage rock on See Your Light. Pop bangers? J’adore and Suddenly tick that box neatly, whilst Have You Seen Her Tonight brings the Carnaby Street vibes. It’s good to know exactly what you want, and on Feel Your Mind The Good Water have certainly lived up to the mirror.
