A bit less cabin in the woods, a bit more mountain trail, Holocene marked Justin Vernon’s sense of closure and a refinement of the things that had made the outside world love him in the first place: that tremulous, aching voice, the pastoral delicacy of his songwriting.

Almost a decade later it still sounds outrageously fresh, despite the legions of guitar-wielding young boys with broken hearts that have followed. As the tale goes things would never be the same again, but few people’s pasts will ever be as glorious as this.
