It took far longer than it should’ve done for the sound which first bled out through the capital’s pirate radio stations at the beginning of the century to capture the British public’s imagination. Now however it seems like ridiculous to think that at first few could see past Grime’s supposed novelty status.

The movement’s battle for absolute supremacy both at home and in America had been well and truly won by the time Shutdown was released, but it’s parent album Konichiwa indisputably confirmed Joseph Junior Adenuga as one of the movement’s most recognised (And bankable) talents. Born amongst the weeds and concrete, Grime was now in total control.
